Congratulations to the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel by APA, the first hotel and tourism operator in Vancouver to achieve the Accessibility Certification.

“By participating in Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility CertificationTM, the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel is demonstrating real leadership in creating a facility that anticipates the needs of their aging customer base along with a generally more active community of people with disabilities. Accessible tourism facilities seamlessly create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone, of all abilities - young and old. I hope their leadership will inspire others.” – Brad McCannell, VP Access & Inclusion, Rick Hansen Foundation.

“The ambassadors of the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel by APA are thrilled with their new RHF accessibility certification.  We are now equipped with the knowledge to best serve all of our guests and make the necessary changes to improve overall access and enjoyment in the future.  I strongly recommend any business to take part in this rewarding exercise.”

Brian Rohl, General Manager, Coast Coal Harbour Hotel by APA

The Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility CertificationTM is one of the sustainability certifications that are recognized and published on Member listings on the Tourism Vancouver website. With support from the Provincial Government, there is a subsidy for approximately 1,100 free ratings of sites within BC. Once rated, rated organizations can apply for funding of up to $20,000 to complete an accessibility improvement project.  Due to overwhelming support of organizations across the province in the past 9 months since the launch of the certification the Rick Hansen foundation assessors have been working at capacity.
