Globally recognized hotel veteran, Martin L. Leclerc is The Westin Bayshore, Vancouver’s new general manager.

 

Leclerc takes over landmark Coal Harbour property after opening China’s Fairmont Nanjing and Marriott International’s St. Regis Tianjin

 

Vancouver, BC (April 26, 2017): The Westin Bayshore’s 2017 revitalization is taking place under the aegis of new General Manager, Martin L. Leclerc, most recently GM for Marriott International’s St. Regis Tianjin, and the Fairmont Nanjing, in China.

 

The well-known Quebec native brings 25 years of hotel leadership, sales and marketing, human resources, operations, market development, public relations and financial management skills to his role. He’s also full of enthusiasm for Vancouver.

Over two and a half decades, Leclerc has been involved in managing some of the world’s most outstanding hotels. The Nanjing property  opened under his leadership and was soon named one of China’s “Top 10” newly opened hotels by the China Hotel Starlight Awards. The spectacular St. Regis Tianjin went through a repositioning and achieved record growth under his tenure. He was awarded 2016 China's Best Hotel General Manager, Hotel Fashion List Awards.

 

While Leclerc was General Manager of the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort and Spa, it earned inclusion on Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List and recommendations from Zagat’s, White Glove and Wine Spectator. He has held other key leadership roles at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria, Fairmont Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, Fairmont Queen Elizabeth in Montreal, Delta Pacific Resort in Richmond, BC, and Delta Vancouver Airport.

 

In 2005, Leclerc was honoured as leader of the “Atlantic Canada Dream Team” by Atlantic Business Magazine, while working as GM of the Delta Beauséjour, Moncton. In his spare time in that city, he assisted the team that brought the Rolling Stones to Magnetic Hill.

 

Leclerc started his career in the hospitality industry in 1988, working in restaurants in Quebec City, including Auberge Baker, À la table de Serge Bruyère, and Le Société Café at Loews Hôtel Vogue in Montreal. He began his hotel career in the early 1990s in the Food and Beverage Division at Jasper Park Lodge in Alberta. 

 

Leclerc describes himself as a lifelong learner. Thus far, his schooling includes a Masters Degree in International Management from Université Paris-Dauphine, France; an MBA from Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), and a Business Administration Degree, Hotel Management from UQAM.

 

He’s been active in the communities in which he’s worked, joining Chambers of Commerce, Business Improvement Associations, Rotary Clubs, YMCAs, Advisory Boards, and restaurant associations in Victoria and Moncton. In Victoria he was Vice-Chair of Tourism Victoria in charge of the financial committee, Chair of Downtown Victoria Business Association and on the Advisory Board for the City Manager.
