It is so pleasing to be able to write to everyone in shared celebration of our third straight record setting year. Each and everyone one of you plays a vital role in ensuring this outstanding achievement and I am happy to extend my personal congratulations – great work everyone!
Vancouver is enjoying success across the board.
From an amazing 2016 kick-off in January with the ‘best ever’ PCMA through to Learning Forward in December, we’ve hosted meetings, conventions and events throughout the year and seen delegate numbers at incredibly high levels.
Our leisure visitors are growing in all key markets, led by Canadian, US and Chinese visitors. We are also seeing great interest and growth in a number of historically strong markets like the UK, Australia and Japan, while the combination of strong new air service and the removal of visitor visas has positioned Mexico to be a great growth story for both 2016 and future years.
On the back of the MRDT increase in 2015, and our record destination performance, Tourism Vancouver is investing more than ever in new and exciting campaigns and marketing initiatives on behalf of the destination and our membership. These new initiatives cover all areas of our business and all sectors. And with new undertakings for our destination brand, film and tourism, events, consumer campaigns, new conferences and innovative digital tools we have many exciting activities to bring to life in 2017. And of course, an upgraded, strategic and powerful new membership proposition for each of you.
That so many of our initiatives are done in partnership speaks volumes about our tourism community. YVR, the VHDA, City of Vancouver, VCC and many, many members regularly come together in the best interests of our industry, and our destination. They do so as true partners, and we are so fortunate to have our efforts underpinned by such great support. Thank you to all of you for your great partnership in 2016.
We are always mindful, however, that our success is a reflection of the amazing work that each of you do – everyday – to make the visitor experience special. That is, and always will be, the key ingredient for our continued success.
From all of us at Tourism Vancouver, thank you for being leaders, for making our visitors feel so special, and for making Vancouver the amazing place that it is. I feel confident we are all well positioned to achieve another record in 2017!
