This summer, the City of Vancouver saw a floating digital billboard cruising the waters of False Creek and English bay. After widespread outcry, the city council passed an amendment to the bylaw restricting digital advertising on the water, which is documented on the NextCity.org website article

The bylaw was originally passed in 1989 and since then, the city and technology has changed significantly. The City of Vancouver has initiated a public consultation process to review the current bylaw and the opinions of the community. The drafting of this new bylaw could impact the character, look and feel of city commercial areas and neighbourhoods. It will also impact the signage for businesses, cultural organizations, festivals and events.

Stakeholder meetings will take place this Fall, and Tourism Vancouver will notify all Members as news arrives.
