Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has been awarded Airport of the Year at the annual CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This prestigious award is given to the airport that has done the most to advance the progress of the global aviation industry. YVR is the first airport in North America to ever receive this award. From community based governance that allows profits to be reinvested back into airport operations and development, to environmental initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, to remarkable customer service, YVR has been praised as a strategic leader among airports worldwide.
“This is an incredible achievement and is a testament to YVR’s success and our growing influence on the world stage,” said Craig Richmond, YVR’s President and CEO. “We have achieved this milestone thanks to our focus on safety, teamwork, accountability and innovation—and our community based, not-for-profit governance model, under which we constantly improve the airport for our passengers, our partners and our communities.”
Earlier this year, YVR was recognized as the Best Airport in North America for an unprecedented seventh consecutive year at the Skytrax World Airport Awards in Cologne, Germany. YVR is the first airport in the world to win seven years in a row, breaking the record for consecutive Skytrax awards.
