Vancouver International Airport (YVR) recently announced new routes between Vancouver and two major international destinations. Starting on May 15, 2015, Air Canada Rouge will fly up to five times per week between Vancouver and Osaka, Japan's second-largest metro area. Flights will take place throughout the summer season, allowing Air Canada to compete in the rapidly growing Asian leisure market. By next summer, three airlines will operate a total of seven flights per day between YVR and Japan.

YVR also announced that Qantas airlines will commence flights between Vancouver and Sydney in January 2015, a test run that involves six flights over two weeks. Air Canada currently operates a direct flight between Sydney and Vancouver.
