In summer 2018, Vancouver will welcome the Financial & Insurance Conference Professionals (FICP) Education Forum to the JW Marriott hotel, part of the brand-new Parq resort in central downtown. The event will mark the first time the Education Forum has been hosted in Canada.

The announcement was revealed by Tourism Vancouver’s Wendy Surkan and JW Marriot parq Vancouver’s Michael Parsons at the 2017 Forum in South Carolina. “I was last in Vancouver for a company incentive trip in 2015, and fell in love with the city immediately,” said Michael Burke, 2017 FICP Education Forum Event Team Chair. “I was, and continue to be, impressed by Vancouver’s vibrancy, culture, ethnicity and beauty, as well as by the amazing hospitality community – Vancouver is one of few places I’ve visited where the hotel salespeople sell you the city before they sell their hotel. I am also grateful for the continued support of Tourism Vancouver and Business Events Canada. We are all so excited about returning to Vancouver for the 2018 Forum.”

A key aspect of the FICP event is its balance of meetings professionals to hospitality partners, a controlled ratio that allows for maximum networking. Approximately 250 planners and hospitality partners are expected to attend the Vancouver event, and Burke is confident the destination will be a huge draw. “Those who have never been to Vancouver are in for a real treat, and those who were last there years ago – well, they’ll be surprised at how much is new,” he said. “When we did a hard-hat tour of the JW Marriott parq and saw the potential of this brand-new property, we know it was the perfect choice for the Forum.”

FICP members are meetings and events professionals at financial services and insurance companies across North America. As the majority of FICP members are seasoned professionals responsible for the selection of event venues and affiliated services, hosting this client-rich group gives Vancouver a rare opportunity to showcase the best of the city to key influencers.

Tourism Vancouver is part of Business Events Canada’s FICP partnership, along with Tourism Whistler, Tourism Toronto, Tourism Montreal and Quebec City Tourism. The Canada team has been an FICP partner for 13 years, a relationship that demonstrates the region’s commitment to the financial and insurance sectors.
