From August 20 through August 25, the battle for the Aegis of Champions will be waged on Canadian soil. For the first time ever in Vancouver, The International Dota 2 Championships will invite the world's top Dota teams to face off at Rogers Arena.
The International event, hosted by Valve Corporation, originated in Cologne, Germany in 2011 before moving to the Key Arena in Seattle until last year. Now in its eighth year, the International is the largest e-sports tournament in the world, routinely drawing sold-out international crowds, with over 1 million international viewers expected via online platforms.
A digital tech powerhouse and home to Canada’s digital technologies Supercluster, Vancouver is home to well-known companies Electronic Arts (EA), Microsoft, Capcom, Nintendo, and Sony Pictures Imageworks. Rogers Arena, located in downtown Vancouver, hosts the Vancouver Canucks, and served as the primary ice hockey venue at the 2010 Winter Olympic games. The venue is expected to sell out +18,000 seats, offering a prize pool of $24 million for winning teams.
