From Jan 8-10, more than 1,000 employees from Trend Micro were in Vancouver for their annual sales meeting at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Staff came from 13 countries around the world.

Trend Micro is a world leading cyber security solutions provider. Their corporate vision is to make the world safe for exchanging digital information.

One of their corporate pillars is Service Projects.

On Wednesday, January 10, the following happened:

Trend Micro made a $65K cash donation to two schools (Lord Strathcona, Grandview Elementary)

1,300 of their employees volunteered at the two schools, to run three programs:

  1. Internet Safety for Kids Program: A program taught by Trend Micro employees to students founded on 4 ideas: Be you, Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Smart. Aimed at the safe use of the web. Kids are taken through scenarios where they get to practice making smart choices on the internet.
  2. World Fair: 13 countries represented by citizens of each nation that work for Trend Micro. Countries include: Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, Brazil, Canada, U.S, Ireland, France, Germany, UK, India and Egypt. Students experienced a tiny bit of culture from each country staffed by Trend employees from each country.
  3. Community Garden Activities: Together with volunteers, kids made fresh vegetable soup together from the sustainable garden projects.

According to Carrie Leung, Tourism Vancouver’s Client Manager, Convention Services, Midwest and Western US, “Corporate Social Responsibility, and Corporate Social Giving are two “trends” that Tourism Vancouver is seeing a lot more of in the Meetings and Conventions industry. This is the largest ever convention-related CSR program that the Vancouver community has benefited from. We feel it’s important that Vancouverites know when conferences leave important legacies in Vancouver.”
