With two hotels, a casino, five restaurants, three bars, and 62,000 square feet of meeting and event space, downtown Vancouver's new Parq development promises to be an exciting addition to the city's landscape. Slated to open its doors in January 2017, Parq will be an "urban resort" adjoining BC Place Stadium, creating a comprehensive entertainment and tourism complex.
Parq will present new options for planners looking to bring their meeting to Vancouver, offering the city's largest hotel convention facility-including Vancouver's largest ballroom, and indoor/outdoor event space. Meeting planners can also utilize the adjoining 54,500-seat BC Place Stadium, home of Vancouver's BC Lions and Whitecaps professional sports teams, as well as being the venue for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
"The flexible function areas and convention space at Parq will enable Vancouver to compete with North America's most popular and successful destination convention properties with an inimitably Canadian spirit," says Scott Menke, the President of Paragon Development, the company responsible for bringing the $600 million complex to life.
The complex will be home to two Marriott International luxury hotels: Vancouver's first JW Marriott, with 288 guest rooms and 41 suites; and The Douglas, part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, with 178 rooms and 10 suites. The complex will also live up to its name with a unique outdoor green space on the sixth floor. Along with accommodation and convention facilities, Parq will be the new home of the Edgewater Casino, offer a spa and wellness sanctuary, and promises to be a hub for foodies with its world-class restaurant program.
