The reasons to host your event in Canada are endless: stunning natural beauty, home-away-from-home hotels, globally lauded meetings facilities and, most importantly, an easy and straightforward registration procedure. Now the process is easier than ever thanks to the Canada Border Services Agency’s online registration option – and the potential tax benefits are attractive, too.

In previous years, planners were required to submit a formal event registration request by sending an official letter to the Canada Border Services Agency. Now, registration for any U.S. or international event, meeting, convention or incentive trip can be completed entirely online by visiting the Government of Canada website. Once there, simply follow the prompts to enter event details. After the event has been registered, a regional coordinator will contact the planner to guide him or her through the rest of the process. At this time, applicants will also receive confirmation as to whether the meeting qualifies for a Goods and Services (GST) tax rebate, or an exemption that will allow any exhibit or other meetings materials to cross the border duty- and tax-free. Easy, right? You can learn more about the benefits of registering your meeting here

You can simplify the process even further by hiring a customs broker, and take advantage of “Border to Show” services where your registration or exhibit material can travel directly to your facility and not be held up at point of entry into Canada. Tourism Vancouver recommends Davidson & Sons Customs Brokers and Mendelssohn Event Logistics.
