Vancouver is privileged to house some of the world’s brightest minds, and it’s enlightening to see these leaders not only continually excel in their careers, but also elevate Canada’s stature in the global knowledge economy.

Dr. Julio Montaner is a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Head of the UBC Division of AIDS, as well as the Director of the UBC/Providence Health Care BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. The Be a Host Program had the wonderful opportunity to work with him in 2015, when he hosted the 8th International Aids Society Conference on HIV Pathogenesis Treatment and Prevention. Dr. Montaner played an invaluable role, where he and his team successfully gathered more than 5,500 academic individuals from all over the world.

In September, UBC announced that Dr. Julio Montaner has been appointed a University Killam Professor, the highest honor UBC can grant on a faculty member. Alongside other numerous awards and distinctions for his work and knowledge, we would like to congratulate him on another amazing achievement!

Dr. Montaner has been involved in more than 650 scientific publications on HIV/AIDS, while focusing his research on the development of antiretroviral therapies and management strategies. Find out more about Dr. Montaner’s thoughts on how "Together, we can stop HIV and Aids", how Treating Social Determinants of Health can help end HIV/AIDS, and his experience working with the Be a Host program.

The Be a Host program is here to assist local hosts with showcasing their Canadian research excellence and leadership by hosting a conference in Vancouver. Please feel free to contact us for more details.
