For the first time ever, the battle for the Aegis of Champions will be waged on Canadian soil, as The International Dota 2 Championships invite the world's top Dota teams to face off at Rogers Arena in Vancouver from August 20 through August 25.
The International, hosted by Valve Corporation, originated in Cologne, Germany in 2011 before moving to the KeyArena in Seattle until the summer of last year. Now in its eighth year, the International is the largest e-sports tournament in the world, routinely drawing sold-out international crowds, with over 1 million international viewers expected via online platforms.
Home to well-known companies like Electronic Arts (EA), Microsoft, Capcom, Nintendo, and Sony Pictures Imageworks, the event is a natural fit for Vancouver. Rogers Arena, located in downtown Vancouver, hosts the Vancouver Canucks, and served as the primary ice hockey venue at the 2010 Winter Olympic games. The venue is expected to sell out +18,000 seats, and the event is set to offer a prize pool of $24 million for winning teams.
Tickets are on sale now, ranging from CAN $125-$250 via ticketmaster.
