The Vancouver Mural Festival (VMF), founded in 2016 by David Vertesi of Vancouver band Hey Ocean! and Gabriel Hall, aims to foster local artistic talent and promote Vancouver as a major contributor to the international art scene. After a highly successful debut festival last August, VMF returns this summer with over 60 new murals, with 50 in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood alone.

With diversity at the festival's heart, artist applications were evaluated to fill artistic and demographic gaps in the current mural collection. The artists themselves range from backgrounds in illustration, set painting, to tattoos, and everything in between. Through a training program with curator Drew Young, artists learn how to project and map smaller pieces onto a city wall, and extra support is provided to complete the project. 45 Canadian and eight international artists are featured in this year's festival - including U.K. artist David Shillinglaw and Mexico's Irving Cano

In addition to the festival, VMF mural tours take place around Mt. Pleasant and the False Creek Flats throughout the year, twice every Saturday (11:00 AM – 12:30PM; 1:30PM – 3:00PM). Tickets: one tour for $20 or two for $30 (student and senior discounts available).  Tickets available at
