You know spring has arrived in Vancouver when the first cruise ships of the season steam into port. This year, the city’s cruise season starts on April 4 with the arrival of the Star Princess sailing from Victoria to Hawaii. Throughout the season, ships will travel through Vancouver to and from destinations ranging from San Francisco and Hawaii to Disney Wonder’s Alaska cruise and beyond.
In 2015, more than 800,000 passengers travelled on 228 calls by 32 different vessels during a longer-than-normal season extended by new itineraries to Hawaii and the California coast, in addition to Alaskan itineraries and associated re-positioning options. The Vancouver cruise industry stimulates more than $2 million in economic activity for each vessel that calls at Canada Place, resulting in approximately 283,000 hotel room nights.
