With a cheeky nod to Vancouver's area code, Six Hundred Four (151 Cambie St.), a luxury sneaker boutique in Gastown, sells storytelling pieces of art in limited-edition shoe form.
The idea behind the locally made sneakers is simple: support local artists and charities at the same time. Founder James Lepp commissioned seven Vancouver artists to create four designs to be spread across 604 pairs of shoes each - resulting in 151 pairs per individual design. Each pair has a unique identification number, and 6.04% of the sales go to a charity of the artist's choice. Sneakers start at $149 a pair.
Upcoming projects for the locally minded gallery include 30 custom pairs for Def Leppard's lead guitarist Phil Collen, a live art piece completion by Priscilla Yu from July 4-7, and a collaboration with SKYE footwear.
