The City of North Vancouver announced the redevelopment of Lower Lonsdale’s Shipyards District in April of 2016. Since the initial announcement, renovations such as the construction of the Polygon Gallery, North Vancouver’s new home for the Presentation House Gallery, the MEGABENCH and waterfront walkway, the plaza water theatre, and the integration of the Spirit Trail have taken place. Tap and Barrel Shipyards has also since expanded their outdoor patio which now includes outdoor fire pits, live music, and views of Downtown Vancouver. 

The Shipyards celebrated their official grand opening on July 10, 2019. The Water Park is now open daily until Labour Day, and several merchants in the Shipyards Commons have also opened their doors to the public including Welcome Parlour Ice Cream and Larry’s Market.

Other Shipyards tenants include Capilano University’s “CapU Lonsdale” satellite campus and Seaside by Executive Hotels & Resorts. The Seaside Hotel will be a high-end, boutique hotel with 72 rooms, ocean-facing spa suites, and a refined lobby bar. 

The Shipyards Commons is aimed to be the “heart of the Shipyards” offering residents and visitors alike a unique, interactive, and year-round place to gather and enjoy.

  • A re-creation of the historic Machine Shop structure to act as a cover for seasonal use
  • 12,000 square foot public skating area (seasonal)
  • 20,000 square foot dynamic event space
  • Public Washrooms
  • Performers Green Room
