Tacofino, created in Tofino, BC in 2009 by Jason Sussman and Kaeli Robinsong, serves "Baja-by-way-of-West-Coast" cuisine with a handful of food trucks, and five brick-and-mortar restaurants (Tacofino Bentall on West Pender recently opened its doors in late summer 2017). Tacofino's Blue Truck can be found at the corner of Robson & Howe and the White Truck can be found at Burrard & Dunsmuir. Try their signature fish taco with crispy pacific cod, salsa fresca and chipotle mayo or their walking burrito with red chorizo, valentia, cheese sauce and cilantro (menu varies by location).
Started in 2010 by Jason Apple and Jory Simkin, Roaming Dragon serves "authentically unauthentic" Pan-Asian cuisine all around Vancouver, from the street corner to farmers markets. The truck serves everything from small eats like their homemade taro and lotus root chips, to larger meals like their chicken noodle box, with chow mein noodles, shiitake mushrooms, and gai-lan tossed with a hoisin rhempa sauce and garnish; or their soba noodle salad with edamame, sweet bell peppers and soy-yuzu vinaigrette dressing (menu subject to change).
Owned and operated by pie lovers Kiowa Martin and Chris Anstee, the Aussie Pie Guy brings authentic Australian free-range beef, free-run pork and chicken, and organic veggie pies to Vancouver's streets and festivals. Try their traditional Aussie pie with beef, onion and pepper gravy (made with Squamish favourite Howe Sound Rail Ale), or satisfy your sweet tooth with their Sweetie Pie, made with BC apples, cinnamon and vanilla custard.
Chou Chou Crêpes serves traditional sweet and savory Brittany crepes in Vancouver's Gastown neighbourhood. Try their savory Mme Marie crepe with mozzarella, smoked ham and apple compote or their Mr Chouchou with salty caramel and Grand Marnier.
Vancouver Foodie Tours offers a 2-hour tour of popular food trucks in Vancouver's downtown area from April 1 to November 30. The tour consists of 5 courses and 7 tastings, rain or shine. The tour meets at 855 Burrard St (at Smithe) beside the Japadog food cart and covers approximately a 6 block radius. The menu is ever changing, but has included the famous Kurobuta Termiayo Japadog, a butter chicken naan kebab, a grilled cheese sandwich and a fish taco, partnered with stories from local foodies who guide the tour.
