On August 20, 2018, bird lovers will flock to the seawall in Coal Harbour to take in the festivities of Birds on Parade — a giant murmuration of costumed bird stilt dancers, bird choruses, and hand-made bird puppets — in celebration of the 2018 International Ornithological Congress and the Vancouver International Bird Festival (August 19-26).

The procession will begin at the Coal Harbour Community Centre at 2pm and dip, swoop and flutter along the waterfront to Jack Poole Plaza at the Vancouver Convention Centre, where the grand opening celebrations for IOC 2018 will kickoff.

Birds are gathering into flocks, preening their feathers, establishing flight patterns, and practicing their calls for this grand event. The parade will embody the movements, colours and sounds of birds that live in or migrate through British Columbia. All are invited to join.
