Vancouver’s Bard on the Beach is back for its 27th season in 2016, running June 3 to September 24. Western Canada’s largest Shakespeare Festival will once again stake its tents in scenic Vanier Park against the spectacular waterfront backdrop of False Creek. As the sun sets over English Bay, settle in your seats and get ready for a hearty dose of Shakespeare-with-a-twist.
This season will bring to the stage four Shakespearean classics, including a retro twist on The Merry Wives of Windsor that will have you grooving in your seat to high-spirited ‘60s tunes; the timeless love story of Romeo and Juliet, which has captivated audiences and tugged at heartstrings for centuries; the powerful tragedy Othello, set to the American Civil War era; and Pericles, a mythical adventure marked by distant travels, love lost and found, and unexpected redemption.
Show up one hour early for your play and browse Bard Village, featuring pre-show talks about the performances; concession and licensed bar; picnic packages; and the Bard Boutique, where you can purchase books, scripts and other souvenirs. Tickets for all shows go on sale April 6 at 10am. Call 604-739-0559 or click here to purchase.
