Opened in 1933 and a designated Heritage site since 1974, St. Andrew's-Wesley is an important landmark for its beauty and is a very welcoming and progressive church. It's 14th century gothic architecture and cathedral like setting make it a top tourist attraction and a favorite for Hollywood movie sets. The church has been featured in over 20 movies and TV series including X-Men 2 and Battlestar Gallactica. The church is also a destination church for weddings, and a favorite venue for concerts, lectures, and mini conventions.
The Church is committed to nurturing all and celebrating the diversity found in the family of God, inclusive of all races, religions, ethnicities, genders and sexual orientations (LGBTQ). Central themes are kindness, social justice and peace.
The Nave, with its 34 stained, etched and faceted windows designed by several international artists pay tribute to the glory of God. Internationally renowned Darryl Nixon celebrates 34 years of music ministry at St. Andrew's Wesley and performs on a 60 stop 3000 pipe Canadian-built Casavant organ.
The church is open to visitors M-F noon-4PM and Sunday 10 AM-8:30 PM. Sunday morning worship (10:30 AM)- A welcoming and traditional service for mindful worship, loving community and thoughtful participation. Jazz Vespers (4:00 PM)- An hour of jazz interspersed with reflections on love, faith and hope. This special service is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year. Candlelight and Music (7:00 PM)- A contemplative hour featuring candlelight, prayer, guest singers and instrumentalists. This Taizé style service is modelled after services found in Chartres.
We are a light in the heart of the city, famous for presenting inspiring concerts and intriguing lecture series, and for having a willingness and desire to connect and understand all faiths, especially in these troubled times.
We have an annual Blessing of the Animals and we are a pet friendly church. And we love families, children and everyone else. We love to praise God and bring joy into this world. And when you come to Vancouver, we'd love to meet you.
