Set against a backdrop of incredible city and mountain views, and just blocks from the famed Kits Beach, Kitsilano’s West 4th Avenue maintains a friendly neighbourhood feel, with an energy and identity all its own. Flavoured with a colourful history, Kitsilano's now hip yet laidback personality began in the 1960’s. University students and hippies loved the cheap rents and character of the old homes. West 4th Avenue quickly became Canada’s “coolest” shopping street, and the Haight-Ashbury of Canada. West 4th Avenue was home to vegetarian restaurants, alternative music, health food stores, psychedelic head shops ... and all those hippies!

While much has changed since then, much has remained the same. The heart of Kits is still West 4th Avenue, although it now reflects a contemporary urban lifestyle. Most shops and restaurants are still one-of-a-kind, and reflect the tastes and sensibilities of caring, committed local owners. And the street still celebrates its hippie roots with a "Summer of Love" be-in every August, with live 60's music, macramé, tie-dye and more!

Kitsilano's West 4th Avenue is a treasure in which you can relax and explore. And while the locals may shop here, it’s also a place for visitors to escape from the usual tourist destinations and big chain stores. West 4th Avenue ... what a trip!
