Christ Church Anglican Cathedral community values its history and heritage: since 1888 people have met on this site to worship. Since 1929, this has been the seat of the Bishop of the Diocese of New Westminster. In 1994, the Cathedral community embraced an ambitious plan to restore the fabric of the building, reveal its heritage features and strengthen its foundations through a seismic upgrade. More than $12.5 million has been raised to date, completely renovating the interior, installing a new pipe organ in a ‘floating’ choir loft, restoring Vancouver’s WWI and WWII Regimental Colours, as well as making the building functional and accessible for all people. In this final phase of renewal, the Cathedral’s roof must be replaced with a new seismically safe and more durable roof, an elegant stained glass bell spire will be constructed at the northeast side of the church with 4 bells, and the Cathedral’s small kitchen will be doubled in size so the Cathedral can better serve the needs of Vancouver’s hungry and vulnerable. The renovation continues but we are open for visitors. Please see our website for our current schedule.
