ISCM World New Music Days
This unique festival celebrates contemporary music from around the world.
The ISCM New Music Festival is dedicated to the promotion and presentation of contemporary music - showcasing the incredible diversity of musical practice in our time. Featuring music from nearly 50 countries, the festival is a celebration of new ideas, new collaborations and new fusions and will help inspire and connect composers and listeners from around the world With daytime, evening and late-night concerts, the festival will have something to intrigue, entertain and excite audiences of all age groups.
Concert partners will include leading new music ensembles, culturally diverse performers, improvisers, and cutting-edge genre-bending musicians. A call for submissions was made in 2016 and over 80 pieces from almost 50 countries will be presented by Vancouver based performers and music ensembles. The opening concert is Life Reflected – is an immersive symphonic experience celebrating the stories of four exceptional women - Alice Munro, Roberta Bondar, Rita Joe and Amanda Todd. The closing concert brings four of the most celebrated women pianists Vicky Chow, Eve Egoyan, Rachel Kiyo and Megumi Masaki together for one magical night.
