Pianist David Fray was named BBC Music Magazine's Newcomer of the Year in 2008, and has been on the path to stardom ever since. Known for his lyrical, expansive and sometimes playful performances, Fray will play Mendelssohn's sparkling, dynamic Piano Concerto No. 1. Felix Mendelssohn was one of the most naturally gifted composers who ever lived, almost Mozart-like in his youthful compositional output and ability to write melody. His first piano concerto was written in a period of only a few days, and was championed by Clara Schumann and Franz Liszt.

This concert also features Bruckner's mighty tribute to Wagner, Symphony No. 3, a work sometimes referred to as the "Wagner Symphony." Bruckner idolized Wagner, and as one would expect from a symphony dedicated to Wagner, this work is epic in scope, towering and powerful.
