The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival story is one of romance. It is an annual celebration that marks the reawakening in our community of all that makes us alive and human. We smile at one another. We take our lunches under the spreading blossoms. We spend the warming nights beneath illuminated clouds of flowers. We celebrate as people have celebrated since time immemorial, with poetry, music, dance, good food and drink, laughter, and love.

Community Events this year include:

Cherry Jam Concert - April 2 & 3, 2020 12:00pm - 1:30pm at Burrard Skytrain station indoor concourse. The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off the season with Cherry Jam Downtown, a noon-hour concert at downtown’s Burrard SkyTrain station featuring local talent and memorable performances. Come soak in the festive atmosphere under the spectacular canopy of blossoming cherry trees and readings of the 2019 Haiku Invitational winning poems.

The Big Picnic - April 11, 12:00pm - 4:00pm at Queen Elizabeth Park.  Inspired by the long-time Japanese cultural tradition of hanami* which literally translates to “cherry blossom (hana) viewing (mi)”, we want to share this experience with everyone under Queen Elizabeth Park’s iconic cherry blossom canopy. Every year, more than 3,000 people from all over come together to share in the beauty of the blossoms and experience why “there are no strangers under the cherry tree”. Don’t miss perhaps Canada’s largest picnic, with free family-friendly entertainment and activities from 12 pm – 3 pm. Some of metro Vancouver’s best food trucks will also be on-site in case you’d like to try something different to eat & drink.

Sakura Days Japan Fair - April 18 & April 19, 10:00am - 5:00pm at VanDusen Botanical Garden. Sakura Days Japan Fair is a family-friendly event showcasing Japanese culture, food, products and businesses to visitors from throughout the Lower Mainland.

Sakura Night - April 23, 6:00pm - 9:00pm at Stanley Park Pavillion. Celebrate the Festival with Top Chefs at the not-to-be-missed food highlight of Asian-fusion flavours of the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival. Featuring eight of Vancouver’s top chefs, this gourmet evening of canapes, cocktails, and conversation is your opportunity to savour, celebrate, and support the Festival.
