The Dance Centre presents International Dance Day 2018

Sunday, April 29 2018

Various Locations in Vancouver

In 1982 the Dance Committee of UNESCO's International Theatre Institute founded International Dance Day, to be celebrated every year on April 29, the anniversary of the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810) who is regarded as the creator of modern ballet. Its goal is to celebrate dance around the world, to revel in the universality of this art form, to cross political, cultural and ethnic barriers and to bring people together with a common language - dance.

12-12.30pm Mozaico Flamenco A thrilling performance of passionate and virtuosic flamenco: the company has been a moving force in the world of Spanish dance for over 40 years, pushing the artistic envelope, and fusing dance, music and culture.
Vancouver Public Library Main Concourse, 350 West Georgia St

1-1.30pm Urban Youth Blast Students from Windermere Secondary School hit the street for a dynamic hip hop routine created with OURO Collective.
Vancouver Art Gallery South Plaza, Robson St between Howe and Hornby

6-7pm Lesley Telford/Inverso Spooky Action is inspired by Einstein's famous phrase referring to particles that are so closely linked, they share the same existence. A collaboration with poet/performer Barbara Adler, this intricate ensemble work weaves together contemporary dance, poetic storytelling and original composition to probe the mysterious ways we act on each other’s lives.
Scotiabank Dance Centre, 677 Davie St
