Gran fondos are mass participation cycling events that have enjoyed incredible popularity in Europe for decades and are gaining momentum in North America.

Loosely translated from Italian, gran fondo means "big ride". These rides are often a hundred kilometres or more and designed for a large number of cyclists at a variety of skill levels - everyone from the competitive cyclist to the amateur enjoy these events. The rides are judged by the challenges they offer: steep climbs, long distances and a combination of the two. While these are not races, top finishers are often recognized.

In 2007, Kevin Thomson and Neil McKinnon had the vision of producing a world-class cycling event to serve as a legacy event of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. In September 2010, after three years of work, that dream became a reality. The inaugural RBC GranFondo Whistler allowed 4,000 passionate cyclists the opportunity to ride the world-renowned Sea to Sky Highway in a dedicated car-free lane from downtown Vancouver to Whistler. Rider capacity grew to 7,000 cyclists in 2011 and 2012 as participants were pouring in from all around the globe as the event quickly established itself as one of the premier cycling events in North America.

Every year since its inception in 2010, the event has been a recipient of Get Out There Magazine's Readers' Choice Award for Best Cycling Event in Western Canada!

Whether it's right in your own backyard or you're visiting British Columbia for the first time, the breathtaking views of this spectacular route will leave you speechless. One day each year, we allow you to experience the incredible Sea to Sky Highway (ranked the #2 Vancouver attraction by and everything in between Vancouver to Whistler in the best way possible - on bike.

All categories of the RBC GranFondo Whistler will start in Stanley Park in downtown Vancouver. All categoris finish in Whistler along Blackcomb Way, except the Medio which will finish in Squamish for a total of 67km.
