St, Andrew's Wesley's Jazz Vespers, is celebrating its 27th Anniversary. Every Sunday from 4-5 PM, you'll be tapping your toes and clapping your hands to the amazing sounds of local and international jazz giants. It's an hour of jazz interspersed with reflections on love, faith and hope given by Rev. Dan Chambers or Very Rev. Dr. Gary Paterson.
In fact St. Andrew's Wesley is only one of two churches in North America who have a regular jazz service each week. The other jazz church is on the east coast- St. Paul's Lutheran in NYC. Each Jazz Vesper's service is unique.
Currently, St. Andrew's Wesley United Church is closed for a 20 month major restoration and seismic upgrade, which includes roof, electrical upgrades, new flooring and installation of interior stone walls. The church will re-open again in 2020. But the 3 regular services continue every Sunday at 3 different venues.
Jazz Vespers will be held at 4 PM at the The Salons at Burrard and Nelson, directly beside St. Andrew's Wesley. St. Andrew's Wesley has been an important venue for the Vancouver International Jazz Festival for 8 years.
Our traditional morning service will be held at the Century Plaza Hotel at Comox and Burrard at 10:30 each Sunday.
Candlelight and Music- A contemplative hour featuring candlelight, prayer, guest singers and instrumentalists. This is the 7th year for this unique Sunday evening service. Under the musical direction of our minister of music, Darryl Nixon and weekly presiders, visitors are treated to a quiet blend of reverie and song. The service is fashioned after the Taizé services in Chartres containing chant-like simple songs repeated many times, with periods of silence, readings, and prayer.Candlelight and Music will be held at 7:15 at St. Paul's Anglican -Pendrell and Jervis.
