Vancouver's Cocktail Scene
When it comes to cocktails, Vancouver takes things seriously. When New Orleans’ internationally acclaimed Tales of the Cocktail festival decided to go “on tour” back in 2011, Vancouver was the destination, in recognition of the city’s passion for a classically-crafted cocktail, and the talented bartenders that create them. Any Vancouver restaurant worth its salt employs a super-star bartender, or at least has them consult on their cocktail list, meaning there’s no shortage of great bars to belly up to and order a sour, smash, Collins, julep, fizz, punch, flip or nog.
Many of Vancouver’s luxury hotels are also home to excellent cocktail programs. Try the 1920s vibe of Prohibition at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia, the modern lines of the Lobby Lounge at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, or the warm ambience of YEW in the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver. The city’s upscale restaurants, such as Hawksworth, West, L’Abattoir and Pidgin also offer a stellar cocktail creations in a fine dining atmosphere.
If a more casual drink is what you’re after, there are plenty of bars and lounges that offer laid-back libations that still show off the city’s cocktail prowess. Try Clough Club or Pourhouse in Gastown, or The Distillery in Yaletown, or UVA right downtown.
