Indigenous Tourism

Vancouver’s Indigenous population is extremely diverse and includes First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people from all across Canada. Metro Vancouver has the third-largest urban Indigenous population in Canada with 52,375 people. There are three Indigenous groups with traditional territories in modern-day Vancouver: the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm(Musqueam),Sḵwx̱wú7mesh(Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ(Tsleil-Waututh). These three descend from the larger cultural group called the Coast Salish. The City of Vancouver is on the traditional territories of these three First Nations who have a special spiritual, cultural, and economic connection to the land that goes back thousands of years.
