Guide to Vancouver's Comedy Scene

There must be something about the mountain air that breeds a healthy sense of humour. Some very  funny people have spent time in the city including Seth Rogen, Tommy Chong, Colin Mochrie and Ryan  Stiles. The city’s comedy scene is thriving, and it’s easy to add a healthy dose of laughter to your  vacation. From side-splitting stand-up to hilarious theatre performances, there’s plenty to tickle your  funny bone.

Comedy Clubs

Vancouver is home to a number of dedicated comedy clubs where you can catch up-and-coming local  talent as well as big-name international headliners. And if there’s a comic actor in town to shoot a  movie, it’s not unheard of for them to hit the stage for an unannounced set. The late, great Robin  Williams was well-loved for his impromptu Vancouver stand-up appearances.

Comedy Theatres and Improv

Experience the exciting world of improvisational comedy at the Vancouver TheatreSports League, where no two shows are ever the same. This fast-paced performance style is completely unscripted and integrates audience responses with Broadway music, games, props and more. Shows are often themed around current pop-culture phenomena and trends. Additionally, there are many venues in the city that present a long-running comedy or improv night on different days of the week.

JFL NorthWest Comedy Festival

Vancouver’s annual JFL NorthWest is held in February each year, and brings together top-draw comedians with new talent. Headliners in past years have included Craig Ferguson, Hannibal Buress and John Mulaney. Along with stand-up acts, the festival includes improv performances, all-ages shows and community events.
