Accommodation in 2010
Considered one of the most beautiful and liveable cities in the world, Vancouver and its surrounding areas are popular visitor destinations that offer a variety of accommodation options.
From budget rooms and luxury suites to cozy bed and breakfasts, private home rentals and other alternatives, Metro Vancouver’s accommodations are being expanded to welcome the world for the 2010 Winter Games – which is the largest event the region has ever hosted.
And with the 2010 Winter Games just a few months away, demand for rooms is extremely high. Finding accommodation close to the Games venues – either in Richmond or downtown Vancouver – may be challenging. Though (based on patterns at previous Olympic Games), some hotels may offer additional rooms as the Games draw closer. In Whistler, however, non-hotel inventory – such as condos and townhomes – is currently available.
To help you plan your 2010 Winter Games experience, the local tourism industry has created a new website – www.2010destinationplanner.com – that offers information on a range of available accommodation, including hotels, bed and breakfasts, private home rentals and rooms on cruise ships. It’s worthwhile to check the site often, as new inventory is added on a regular basis – and with more properties expected in the coming months.
When looking for accommodation for the 2010 Winter Games, we recommend the following:
- Looking farther out in the Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley areas. Keep in mind that with each event ticket, access to public transit is included for the day of the event.
- Considering other accommodation options such as private home rentals, hostels and rooms on cruise ships.
- Visiting the 2010 Destination Planner and other tourism websites regularly.
- Staying in touch with individual hotels.
Visitors can also access accommodation options through tourismvancouver.com, HelloBC.com, whistler.com, tourismrichmond.com, EMR Vacation Rentals and Breakaway Vacations, or book a cruise ship stateroom through Newwest Special Projects.
