Accommodation in 2010

Considered one of the most beautiful and liveable cities in the world, Vancouver and its surrounding areas are popular visitor destinations that offer a variety of accommodation options.

From budget rooms and luxury suites to cozy bed and breakfasts, private home rentals and other alternatives, Metro Vancouver’s accommodations are being expanded to welcome the world for the 2010 Winter Games – which is the largest event the region has ever hosted.

And with the 2010 Winter Games quickly approaching, demand for rooms is extremely high. Finding accommodation close to the Games venues – either in Richmond or downtown Vancouver – may be challenging. Though (based on patterns at previous Olympic Games), some hotels may offer additional rooms as the Games draw closer. In Whistler, however, non-hotel inventory – such as condos and townhomes – is currently available.

To help you plan your 2010 Winter Games experience, the local tourism industry has created a new website – www.2010destinationplanner.com – that offers information on a range of available accommodation, including hotels, bed and breakfasts, private home rentals and rooms on cruise ships. It’s worthwhile to check the site often, as new inventory is added on a regular basis – and with more properties expected in the coming months.

If you’re planning to visit for the Games, here are some accommodation options you may wish to consider:

  • Aside from www.2010destinationplanner.com, visit tourism websites such as www.hellobc.com, www.tourismvancouver.com, or www.whistler.com regularly for updates on accommodation availability, or to book.
  • Look for hotels beyond Metro Vancouver to the Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, or Northern Washington State.
  • Consider other accommodation options such as private home rentals, hostels, bed and breakfasts, cruise ships and RV parks. Be sure to reserve with a preferred supplier.
  • In Whistler, several hotels, as well as non-hotel accommodation (townhomes and condominiums ) are available for the Games period. Visit www.whistler.com.
  • Contact and stay in touch with individual hotels. Inventory may be released from time-to-time.
