| Located on the banks of the mighty Fraser River, in the historic fishing village of Steveston, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site is a dynamic facility, full of sounds, images and artifacts waiting to be explored. Enter and learn how Canada's West Coast fishing industry developed. Built in 1894 the cannery echoes with memories of the days when it was the largest in British Columbia. Today it is a museum commemorating the history of the West Coast fishing industry. Guided tours depart every hour on the hour, or you can choose to self-guide through the facility at your leisure. Interactive exhibits bring to life the machines that once churned out millions of cans of salmon. A walk through its history will bring you face to face with the Chinese, Japanese, First Nations and European fishermen and plant workers who toiled long hours, side by side, to keep up with the mountains of sockeye processed in the "monster cannery". Open the first Saturday in May through Canadian Thanksgiving in October. Call or visit our website for exact hours. The Cannery is just a short drive from Vancouver International Airport and free parking is available.
