The Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art is downtown Vancouver’s public art gallery named after the acclaimed Haida artist Bill Reid (1920 – 1998). The Gallery is dedicated to understanding and appreciating contemporary Aboriginal art of the Northwest Coast of North America.
Continuum: Vision and Creativity on the Northwest Coast is a major exhibition of emerging and mid-career Aboriginal artists from British Columbia, Washington State and Alaska. The artists have used a wide variety of media and approaches from painting, photo-animation, textiles, sculpture, photo-lithography, jewelry and mixed media, to installation and collaboration. Exhibition runs June 20, 2009 – January 31, 2010
Other Gallery highlights include: Reid’s gold and silver jewelry, Reid’s bronze masterpiece Mythic Messengers, several of Reid’s works featured on the Canadian $20 banknote, and a full scale totem pole carved by James Hart of Haida Gwaii.
