» Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games FAQs

When will the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and Winter Paralympic Games be held?

  • Olympic Winter Games: February 12 - 28, 2010
  • Paralympic Winter Games: March 12 to March 21, 2010

How can I sign up to volunteer for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games?
The 2010 Winter Games will need some 25,000 volunteers to help run the Games. During the bid some 50,000 names of those interested in volunteering in 2010 were collected and passed along to the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC).

A formal volunteer program will be launched in 2008.

There will be a competition for volunteer positions, much like applying for a job. Volunteerism is important and VANOC will want to take those specific skill sets and see how volunteers can be best matched to the jobs involved. There will be an interview process, screening and a training process for volunteers.

In the meantime we're encouraging British Columbians to get more volunteer experience in the next few years by volunteering at the many community events and festivals.

Be sure to check out the many volunteer organizations in your community, or make use of the online resources at http://www.volunteerbc.bc.ca

How can I get a job working on or for the 2010 Winter Games?
Individuals hoping to obtain employment with the Vancouver Organizing Committee should reference the Vancouver2010.com website for job postings and other HR information. In the coming years, VANOC will be hiring over 1,000 skilled individuals.

Where and when will event tickets be available?
Tickets will go on sale in late 2008. Some 1.8 million tickets will be available for purchase. See attached PDF for ticketing information

How can I make accommodation reservations?
The Greater Vancouver hotel community had to provide the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games with the required amount of committed hotel rooms in order to successfully meet the accommodation needs of the bid and win the right to host the Games. These rooms are committed for the Olympic Family; athletes, officials, media, sponsors, delegates and event organizers.

In order to properly manage the committed room blocks contracted by the Organizing Committee, Vancouver hotels are not yet accepting any individual or group reservations during the Olympic period, January 30 through March 2, 2010.

Hotel rooms will become available as the Organizing Committee moves forward in finalizing individual hotel commitments. Until then, the Organizing Committee thanks you for your patience. The hotel community looks forward to assisting you with your accommodation needs in the near future. It is anticipated that hotel commitments will be finalized over the next several months. Individual hotel room bookings will not be available until much closer to the actual dates of the Games. For past Olympic cities, this has not been until 18 months prior.

Please refer to our website www.tourismvancouver.com for updates. You can also refer to www.Vancouver2010.com, the official site of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Can I put the 2010 Games logo on my business stationery or sign?

The use of the is dictated by the International Olympic Committee. As a rule, only official sponsors can use Olympic branding.

Licensees are organizations that are licensed to use Olympic marks on products created for sale.
