» Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games - Accommodation FAQs

When will tickets be available for 2010?
Vancouver 2010 ticket information - including pricing and methods of purchase - will be available in late 2008. When can I book my hotel accommodations in Vancouver or Whistler for the 2010 Winter Games? VANOC, together with the regional tourism associations and hotels, are in the early stages of an accommodation plan for spectators that will be traveling to Vancouver and Whistler for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. While some individual hotels are compiling a waiting list, most are not handling visitor enquiries at this time. A select number of hotels outside of the VANOC room block may be taking reservations.

Why do I have to wait so long to book a reservation?
As part of their commitment to the IOC, VANOC is currently in discussions with hotel properties to secure rooms for the required number,as per the host city contract for athletes, coaches, officials and media. This is one of the official responsibilities of the Organizing Committee. Many hotels are waiting for this process to be completed so they know exactly how many of their rooms will be available for the public.

Are hotels going to dramatically increase their rates for the Games?
It is important to note that VANOC is not directly involved with the pricing of accommodation for spectators but is working with tourism organizations to encourage best practices in providing fair market value.

Accommodation pricing is the responsibility of the business operator. Due to a large inventory of rooms available in Greater Vancouver and Whistler, it is expected that there will continue to be rooms available at a variety of price levels.

Is it true that accommodation packages are already being offered costing thousands of dollars?
One tour company has put together a package for Vancouver that was offered at several thousand dollars. However, it does not represent a pattern or trend in the market. Ultimately, it is always the consumer who decides how much they are willing to pay for certain products and services.
