Vancouver

Weddings

Marriage equality has been in British Columbia since 2003, but it was in 2005 that Canada became only the fourth country in the world to legally recognize same-sex marriage. In the years since, Vancouver has been chosen by countless couples, both locals and visitors, as the place to say “I do.”
Vancouver makes both a welcoming host and a beautiful backdrop for wedding celebrations. From stunning venues and photo locations, to first-class catering, florists and photographers, brides and grooms will find plenty of resources to make their nuptials an affair to remember.

GayVan.com is an excellent source of information on planning a same-sex wedding in Vancouver, including a listing of marriage commissioners.

Although summer tends to be the most popular for nuptials, with posh indoor and stunning outdoor locations, Vancouver’s mild winters allow for even more date options, and downtown Vancouver is just a short drive away from mountaintop winter wonderlands in the winter. Here are just some of the options:

Take the Sea To Sky Gondola, just an hour drive from Vancouver up to snowy panoramic views of the coastal mountain range and Howe Sound. With both indoor and outdoor spots to tie the knot, there’s something for every kind of winter romance.

Just 20 minutes from downtown, you can say your vows on Grouse Mountain with all of Vancouver as witness far below. Follow the vows with a meal in the sublime Observatory Restaurant—then head outside for a "first ski" or strap on ice skates for the outdoor rink.

To truly feel like a pair of royals, tie the knot at the elegant Vancouver Art Gallery with a spacious domed ceiling and twin marble staircases.

Stanley Park is green and lush through most of the winter, and is also beautiful when we do get snow. The Teahouse in Stanley Park, with greenery indoors and outside of it’s floor-to-rooftop windows, is classic laid-back West Coast elegance.
