Vancouver was once again ranked the third most liveable city in the world according to the Mercer Human Resource Consulting world-wide quality of living survey. Vancouver was the only North American city to place in the top ten. The analysis is based on an evaluation of 39 quality of living criteria for each city including political, social, economic and environmental factors, personal safety and health, education, transport and other public services.

| GROUND BREAKS ON FINAL 2010 OLYMPIC VENUE |

Construction is now officially under way on Hillcrest/Nat Bailey Stadium Park, the final competition venue of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to break ground. The facility, approximately 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver, will host the men's and women's curling competitions for the Games, as well as the wheelchair curling tournament for the Paralympic Games. Completion is scheduled for fall 2008 and the facility will seat 6,000 during Olympic competitions.
Post-Games, Hillcrest/Nat Bailey Stadium Park will become a multi-purpose community recreation centre that will include an ice hockey rink, gymnasium, library and eight sheets of curling ice. Attached to, and being constructed along with the curling venue, is a new aquatic centre with a 50-metre lap and leisure pool. The multi-purpose centre has been designed using leading environmental and business practices and is targeted for LEED Gold certification. An example of the environmentally sustainable features planned include the transfer of waste heat from the refrigeration plant to heat other building spaces, the adjacent aquatics centre and the venue site. Hyatt Regency Vancouver has completed the final phase of an extensive six year, $40 million renovation, including all 644 guest rooms and 45,000 sq. ft. of public space. Tourism Vancouver's International Team, Richard Yore and Dorte Ottesen, will be attending the IMEX tradeshow in Frankfurt Germany, April 17 - 19. IMEX is the essential worldwide exhibition for meetings and incentive travel. BOCCIA WORLD CUP
The local organising committee of the 2007 Boccia world cup are down to the final planning stages for their event at BC Place Stadium (May 9-19).
The sports event will play host to over 200 Cerebral Palsy athletes from 28 competing nations, the event will provide BC and Canadian athletes the ultimate in training for the podium in 2008 in Beijing. BC currently boasts 5 athletes on the national squad all of whom are exciting to have the opportunity to perform on "home ground". The event is expected to generate in excess of $1 million to the local economy, with many athletes and families planning to stay and enjoy Vancouver's unique hospitality. FIFA U-20 WORLD CUP CANADA
In July 2007, Canada will welcome the world's finest youth players for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada, and Burnaby's Swangard Stadium will host the event. The biennial event is second only to the FIFA World Cup in size and scope and will showcase the most talented under-twenty soccer players in the world. The tournament runs June 30 to July 22 with six Canadian host cities - Burnaby, Victoria, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. www.bcsoccer.net
2007 MASTERCARD MEMORIAL CUP
The 2007 MasterCard Memorial Cup is scheduled for May 18th to 27th, 2007 at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, B.C and will mark the 89th edition of the Canadian Hockey League National Championship. The Memorial Cup features a four team round robin format with the host club competing with the Champions from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League and the Western Hockey League. www.2007MemorialCup.ca
