| MUSEUM OF ANTHROPOLOGY "CLOSED FOR INNOVATIONS" |
September 2, 2008 - March 3, 2009
The towering totem poles and stunning First Nations carvings of the UBC Museum of Anthropology (MOA) will be in hibernation this winter as the museum undergoes a $55 million renovation of 75 per cent of its existing space. The renovations are, perhaps more aptly, being called "innovations" by the museum staff, who welcome the major expansion that will increase the museum size by 50 per cent by 2010, and create unprecedented opportunities for research, teaching and public enjoyment. The renovation will result in rejuvenated exhibition space, as well as expanded special event rental facilities, museum shop and museum café. For more information on the scope of the project and to view detailed drawings of re-designed spaces visit www.moa.ubc.ca. The museum will be closed from September 2, 2008 until March 3, 2009.

| SHANGRI-LA "TIGERS" PREPARE TO ROAR IN VANCOUVER |
With the imminent opening of the Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver in January 2009 (Shangri-La's first North American property), eight Shangri-La "Tigers" have returned to Vancouver, bringing with them a unique approach to delivering the hotel group's distinctive level of service. Launched in February 2006, the Tigers program enables talented, young hospitality professionals from across North America to be placed in Shangri-La properties throughout Asia to observe and absorb the service culture and be part of the service delivery within their host hotels, and ultimately bring that expertise back to North America. These eight Vancouver Tigers will take the lead in instilling these hospitality service standards among locally-hired staff. The 119-room hotel, located in downtown Vancouver, will occupy the first 15 floors of a new 61-story landmark building - the tallest in Vancouver - with cutting-edge architectural design.

| VANCOUVER NAMED BEST WALKING CITY IN CANADA |
Vancouver has been recognized as the 2008 Best Walking City in Canada by the Canadian Federation of Podiatric Medicine. Factors contributing to Vancouver's ranking include natural beauty, extensive parks, and the city's transportation plan which makes walking one of the top transportation priorities. The city invests in transportation options such as widening sidewalks, neighbourhood traffic calming, and increasing greenways. In addition, land-use planning has resulted in higher densities and a very walkable downtown core. Vancouver was also recognized for the number of kilometres of trails in the city, ideal year-round temperatures, good air quality and many points of interest. The award was established to raise awareness for the need for safe, accessible and practical urban walking routes which encourage and enable residents to walk as part of their daily life.
