2016 is poised to be a vibrant year for tourism in Vancouver. The inaugural Americas Masters Games (August 26 to September 4) will bring more than 10,000 athletes over the age of 30 to Vancouver to compete in more than 25 different sports, including soccer, hockey, triathlon, golf, swimming, tennis and more. The majority of attendees, plus their families and trainers, are expected to come from B.C. as well as neighbouring states and provinces.

With the success of the FIFA Women’s World Cup last spring, and the upcoming World Rugby Sevens (March 12 – 13), Vancouver is fast becoming a recognized and desirable destination for major sporting events and tournaments. This summer, the inaugural Americas Masters Games (August 26 to September 4) will bring more than 10,000 athletes over the age of 30 to Vancouver to compete in more than 25 different sports, including soccer, hockey, triathlon, golf, swimming, tennis and more. The majority of attendees, plus their families and trainers, are expected to come from B.C. as well as neighbouring states and provinces.

Modelled after the World Masters Games, this regional event will see visitors and locals experiencing Vancouver’s events, attractions, transportation, hotel stays and dining throughout the duration of the Games.

Tourism Vancouver members are encouraged to channel their creative and athletic spirits to develop Americas Masters-focused menus, itineraries, content, product and storefronts in the days, weeks and months leading up the AMG. Whether AMG-inspired cocktails, a hosted event for athletes, discounted city tours for AMG families, gift certificates for the athlete’s next visit, special social media posts or even just welcome signage, all will help to encourage the AMG, and other globally renowned sporting events, to come (and return) to Vancouver.

To keep participants and visitors inspired during the “road to the masters”, the AMG and partners will send and share content through email and social media, including descriptions of athletes’ personal journeys, verbiage on our world-class venues, and other relevant stories. Any businesses featuring VIP offers, themed experiences or special welcomes will have the opportunity to be featured in this marketing content wherever possible – so part of the AMG story and get involved today!
