Vancouver is a sporting city and has long been home to passionate competitors and fervent spectators. This is a place with a history of excellence in sport hosting. A city that knocks it out of the park when it comes to hosting sporting events—from regional junior tournaments through to a world championship; from sunny, summer competition to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
As Host City for the 2010 Winter Games, Vancouver took advantage of a unique opportunity to showcase itself to the world as a premier sporting event destination, showing our dedication to hosting with style, enthusiasm and professionalism.
Along with the 2010 Winter Games, Vancouver has welcomed the World Weightlifting Championships, the World Wheelchair Rugby Championships, the World Police and Fire Games, and the Canadian Open PGA Tournament, among many others. In 2015, the city will host the FIFA Women's World Cup gold medal final.
Vancouver is home to professional teams competing in the National Hockey League, Canadian Football League, Major League Soccer and Minor League Baseball, each attracting loyal fans and inspiring up-and-coming players.
