Condé Nast Traveler (October 2009)
Readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine have voted Vancouver the “Best City in the Americas” at their annual Readers’ Choice Awards in New York. Vancouver won the top spot over Buenos Aires, Argentina and Quebec City, Canada. Cities are scored on ambience, friendliness, culture and sites, restaurants, lodging, and shopping, to give a final ranking. Vancouver was previously named “Best City in the Americas” by Condé Nast Traveler readers in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Up! magazine (August 2009)
Up! magazine, together with the Canadian Federation of Podiatric Medicine, has ranked Vancouver as Canada’s “Most Walkable City.” Vancouver topped the list based on judging criteria that assessed the experience each city provides to pedestrians - ranging from width of sidewalks to parkland paths. The ranking is part of Up! magazine’s inaugural walking index, one that will become an annual ranking in an effort to recognize, celebrate and critique how Canadian cities facilitate the most basic travel of all: the one that starts with our own two feet.
The International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA) (June 2009)
The ICCA has ranked Vancouver as North America's top destination for international meetings, ahead of renowned meeting cities such as Montreal, Toronto, Boston, Washington DC and Chicago. The ICCA ranks cities based on the number of international meetings hosted in the previous year. Vancouver hosted 54 meetings in 2008 and has been ranked top destination for at least three years.
The Economist Intelligence Unit (June 2009)
The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has once again named Vancouver as the world's most liveable city based on the organization's Global Liveability Rankings survey. Over 30 indicators, grouped into five categories (stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure) were reviewed across 140 cities around the world, and Vancouver impressively met 98 per cent of the criteria set.
Mercer Human Resource Consulting (April 2009)
In its annual quality of living survey, Mercer again rated Vancouver as the top city in the Americas. The survey compares 39 factors in ten categories, covering 215 cities worldwide, and Vancouver tied in 4th place with Auckland, New Zealand. This year, infrastructure was also accessed, which again, Vancouver came out as top city in the Americas, placing 6th in the world.
The Economist Intelligence Unit (December 2008)
Not only is Vancouver the world’s most liveable city, but the EIU also ranked Vancouver as the top city for business travel for the third year in a row. The Business Travel index assessed and compared 140 cities as potential venues for business trips, conferences and training locations, taking into consideration the cost-related and environmental factors of each city.
Travel Weekly Magazine (December 2008)
Travel Weekly magazine acknowledged Vancouver as the top Canadian destination for 2008 in their sixth annual awards issue. Vancouver has won all six times.
Community Marketing Inc. (November 2006)
Vancouver was recognized as the number one gay leisure travel destination in Canada during an international survey conducted by Community Marketing Inc. (CMI). The annual survey, with over 7,500 gay and lesbian participants, is the largest of its kind and placed Vancouver at the top spot within Canada above both Montreal and Toronto.
SportBusiness International (April 2008)
Vancouver is the fifth top destination in the world to host a sporting event, according to a report, entitled "Ultimate Sports City 2008: Strategies for Successful Event Hosting", which appeared in SportBusiness International. The city's global designation also makes it the top ranked city in the Americas. The report scored cities on public sports interest, hosting experience, facilities, transportation accommodation, government support, legacy, quality of life and marketing.
