June 2015

In January 2015, three landmark First Nations exhibits opened simultaneously across Vancouver. The Musqueam First Nation, in partnership with the Museum of Vancouver and the Museum of Anthropology, have launched c̓əsnaʔəm: The City Before the City - a comprehensive exploration of the Musqueam's early history and living culture. Each exhibit delves into the 5,000-year history of c̓əsnaʔəm - the name of the ancient village and burial site on which Vancouver was built. The ground-breaking project challenges the notion that Vancouver is exclusively a "new" city, instead revealing ancient sites that have been compared to societies as prolific as ancient Egypt and Rome. The exhibition will become part of the Museum of Vancouver's permanent collection. http://www.thecitybeforethecity.com/

Extra! From a First Nation's restaurant and aboriginal canoe tour to museums and a boutique hotel, there are numerous ways to experience indigenous culture in Vancouver. Ask us how.
