For the first time in over a decade, Downtown Vancouver is getting a free, public NYE bash! This family-friendly new year celebration will be full of live music, entertainment and, of course, a yell-along countdown to 2016 complete with colourful blasts of midnight fireworks that will light up the sky and echo off the mountains.

Conveniently located downtown at Canada Place this year's celebrations will be within walking distance for downtown Vancouver visitors and provide an iconic view overlooking the ocean and North Shore mountains. As one of the last cities to ring in the new year, Vancouver will be sure to leave end 2015 with a bang.

"Vancouver is known throughout the world for its lively streets, vibrant community events and festivals," said Mayor Gregor Robertson, "the free New Year's Eve community celebration will be an exciting way to kick off the year ahead. It's fantastic to see community partners and sponsors coming together to help Vancouver ring in the new year with a fantastic line-up of local entertainment, live music, fireworks, and family-friendly celebrations. The countdown is on for one of Vancouver's best New Year's Eves yet."

In the spirit of family celebration, people with younger children are invited to take part in a smaller, calmer, earlier countdown that will be celebrated at 9:00pm. (It's like counting down to the New Year with Saskatchewan, Manitoba, many of USA's red states, and most of Mexico!)

The Vancouver New Year's Eve Celebration Society is a not-for-profit community organization founded by local news, lifestyle and entertainment website Vancity Buzz and made up of a collaborative group of local businesses and associations working closely with the City of Vancouver to make the evening a joint success. The Society has partnered with BRANDLIVE and 102.7 The Peak FM to celebrate the seventh and final year of the PEAK Performance Project, a program that has launched the career of many notable Vancouver musicians. The December 31st musical lineup will feature the 2015 winner, as well as headliner Current Swell, former PEAK Performance Project winner We Are the CityThe Matinee and more.
