Olympic Spotting Scavenger Hunt

Think of it as an Olympic scavenger hunt. Scattered around the city are these Olympic buildings, venues and landmarks. See if you can spot all of them during your visit.

  • The official Vancouver 2010 Countdown Clock stands in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery (750 Hornby Street) giving to-the-second updates on exactly when the 2010 Winter Games will begin.
  •

  • The Vancouver Convention Centre (999 Canada Place Way) will host the International Broadcast Centre and the Main Press Centre during the Games. The expanded facility opened in April 2009 and features a spectacular waterfront setting, a six-acre “green” roof and a total of 1.1 million square feet of meeting space.
  •

  • The city’s landmark Inukshuk, a symbol of Inuit culture given to the City of Vancouver by the Northwest Territories following Expo ‘86, stands proudly on an outcropping at English Bay beach. This imposing grey granite sculpture was the inspiration for the official emblem of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
  •

  • Hop on one of the mini ferries – The Aquabus or False Creek Ferries - that ply the waters of False Creek between Granville Island and Science World to view the Olympic and Paralympic Village Vancouver where some of the thousands of athletes competing in the 2010 Winter Games will reside.
  •

  • From cuddly mascots to colourful clothing, Olympic fans can drop a bundle on official Vancouver 2010 merchandise at the Hbc Olympic stores in downtown Vancouver and at the Vancouver International Airport.
  •

  • The Canada Line, an extension to Vancouver’s SkyTrain rapid transit network, opened August, 2009. The new line, which runs down Cambie and Granville Streets, connects the Vancouver International Airport and downtown Vancouver in about 25 minutes.
  •

  • Located just a few minutes walk from one another in the heart of downtown Vancouver, BC Place Stadium (777 Pacific Boulevard) and GM Place (800 Griffiths Way) will be ground zero during the 2010 Winter Games. BC Place will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies during the 2010 Winter Games. GM Place (which will be renamed Canada Hockey Place during Games-time) will be the main Olympic ice hockey venue for the 2010 Games.
