Every June through September, Bard on the Beach professional Shakespeare Festival brings to life the magic of Shakespeare’s great plays. The Festival site is located on the waterfront in Vancouver’s Vanier Park, adjacent to the downtown core.
This year, Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival’s 26th season runs June 4 to September 26, 2015. The BMO Mainstage offers the hilarious audience favourite, The Comedy of Errors, directed by Scott Bellis, alternating with the epic tragedy King Lear, a Theatre Calgary co-production starring Stratford Festival veteran Ben Campbell and directed by Dennis Garnhum. In the intimate Douglas Campbell tent, a world premiere of a new play based on C.C. Humphreys’ historical novel Shakespeare’s Rebel, directed by Christopher Gaze, alternates with a music-filled Jazz Age staging of Love’s Labour’s Lost, directed by Daryl Cloran.
As well as the plays, Bard on the Beach offers a vibrant, on-site Village where patrons can gather for one full hour before performances begin. With concession services, picnic packages, insightful free talks and the Bard Boutique, there's always lots to do in the Village!
