A bold exploration of friendship, family and trans-identity in contemporary Iran, Facing Mirrors introduces Edi, an affluent transgender man who is racing for the border in an attempt to escape his disapproving father. On his way, Edi is picked up by Rana, a young conservative woman who is challenging traditional roles herself. She is secretly driving a taxi while her husband is in debtor's prison, something that would be frowned upon by traditionalists. When Edi reveals his transgender identity, Rana panics, causing an accident that lands her unconscious in the hospital. She awakens to discover Edi has paid her bills and arranged to repair the cab. Adeptly presented by first-time filmmaker Nega Azabayjani, Facing Mirrors brings to life an unlikely friendship, building hope in crisis.
