The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra's Pops series features a completely different side of the VSO - and this orchestra can swing! This season's Pops series features the breathtaking multicultural stylings of the Sultans of String; explores the world of classic theatre with the great Lerner and Loewe; kicks back with magnificent melodies; celebrates the love song; pays tribute to the beloved Barbra Streisand; and finishes off with a loving homage to two legends: the extraordinary Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.

Sultans of String
October 24-25, 2014 - 8pm Orpheum Theatre
Extraordinary Canadian string ensemble Sultans of String make their VSO debut in an exciting Pops concert that puts the focus squarely on the orchestra. Sultans of String paint a rich musical tapestry, taking you on a journey through many cultures around the world - from exotic Middle Eastern rhythms to Gypsy-jazz, Spanish Flamenco, and even homegrown Cape Breton fiddling!


The Best of Lerner and Loewe
November 21-22, 2014 - 8pm Orpheum Theatre
Hark back to the classic days of theatre, with music by the great Lerner and Loewe. This remarkable musical duo created some of the best-loved music for theatre, including classics such as Camelot, My Fair Lady, Brigadoon, Paint Your Wagon, and Gigi. Conductor Steven Reineke and the orchestra celebrate this wonderful music in a concert that makes you feel like dancing all night long!


In the Mood for a Melody
January 9-10, 2015 - 8pm Orpheum Theatre
Pops conductor, arranger and producer Jonathan Tessero has become known for his outstanding Symphony Pops presentations, and new arrangements of old classics. Tessero and the VSO present a swingin' Pops concert all about melody and soul - with great orchestral arrangements of songs from Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Neil Diamond, and more!


Love Will Keep Us Together
February 6-7, 2015 - 8pm Orpheum Theatre
Love, music's greatest inspiration! Steven Reineke and the VSO explore beautiful love themes from across many eras and styles - including music by Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers, Ennio Morricone, Henry Mancini, Barry White, Barry Manilow, and more.


The Legendary Barbra Streisand
March 13-14, 2015 - 8pm Orpheum Theatre
Multi-platinum singer, composer and stage actor Ann Hampton Callaway joins conductor John Morris Russell and the VSO in a musical portrait of the most celebrated singer of our time, Barbra Streisand. Singing timeless classics from five decades of Barbra Streisand's multi-faceted career, Callaway crafts a loving musical portrait drawn from Barbra's Broadway years, through films, pop albums and new works written just for her, in a tribute to a musical icon that you will never forget


Ella and Louis!
May 15-16, 2015 - 8pm Orpheum Theatre
Byron Stripling and Marva Hicks light up the stage as they take you on a journey through the most famous duets and solos recorded by two of the greatest legends of jazz. From Our Love is Here to Stay to I Can't Give you Anything But Love, highlights from Porgy and Bess and much more, these remarkable artists recreate one of the most memorable collaborations in music history. It's the music of the great Ella Fitzgerald and Satchmo himself, live on stage with the VSO!
