There are plenty of upscale restaurants throughout Vancouver that are worth the splurge, but travelers on a budget will be delighted to discover that great food can also be found at a great price. We’ve scouted some of Vancouver’s best dining deals, scattered throughout historic and up-and-coming neighborhoods.
8 for $8 at Cinema Public House
If you’re looking for a budget lunch, skip the street food carts
and dine on gourmet ingredients for less than $10. Every Monday through Friday from 11am until 3pm, Cinema Public House
in the Granville Entertainment District
offers a variety of lunch combinations. Choose an organic house salad with goat cheese and lemon thyme vinaigrette paired with a prosciutto and brie sandwich, or go with their signature wild mushroom soup served alongside a Fraser Valley smoked bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich, slathered with house-made rosemary aioli.
3 Courses for $30 at Raincity Grill
As they say, the early bird gets the worm — or in this case, early diners get the deal. Make a reservation at Raincity Grill between 5pm and 6pm, and order their early prix-fixe menu while enjoying stunning views of English Bay. This three-course dinner includes options like a beetroot salad with hazelnut vinaigrette, braised Sloping Hills Berkshire pork with bok choy and cheesecake served with apricot puree and crème fraîche ice cream.
Half Off Main Courses at Le Bistro de Paris
Located at the entrance of Stanley Park, this quaint bistro serves up traditional French cuisine made from locally caught fish, seasonal produce and quality cuts of meat. Get it for a deal every Wednesday night, when Le Bistro de Paris’ main course entrées (think seafood-loaded bouillabaisse, braised beef short ribs, filet mignon and lobster macaroni and cheese) are all half priced.
Mussel Mania at The Sandbar Seafood Restaurant
Enjoy views of the marina and Granville Island at this waterfront eatery, where the bar and lounge serve up fresh seafood and great deals. Belly up to the Sandbar Seafood Restaurant’s bar Monday through Friday from 3pm to 6pm and chow down on a bucket of barnacles (okay, mussels) and a locally brewed beer for only $10.
First Seating Menu at Brix Restaurant & Wine Bar
Venture to Yaletown, a trendy commercial district filled with contemporary restaurants, sidewalk cafés and vibrant nightlife venues. Although a delicious meal in this area can cost quite a bit of money, there are still plenty of bargains to be found. Spend the early evening at Brix, located inside a historic 1912 building, where a three-course “first seating menu” costs only $29 per person. Fill up on a Waldorf duck confit salad, followed by a truffle honey roasted Vancouver lingcod and finished by a sticky toffee pudding dessert, drizzled with Appleton rum toffee sauce.
